A serious accident occurred on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the construction site of a four-lane bridge in Ballia district. A heavy structure of steel reinforcement bars (saria) collapsed during work, trapping four laborers underneath. The incident took place around 11:30 AM in Mujaina village on the Indara-Bhatni rail section. Local villagers and police teams immediately started a rescue operation to pull out the trapped workers.

How did the accident happen?
The accident happened while the laborers were working on pillar number 80 of the bridge. They were tying steel bars and laying a slab when the heavy steel structure suddenly became unbalanced and fell. This bridge is part of the NH-727B project being built over the Saryu River. The sudden collapse caused panic at the site, and construction work has been halted for now. The total cost of this project is estimated to be around ₹650 crore.
Who are the injured laborers?
Four workers were injured in this incident, and most of them are from Bihar. The injured have been identified as:
- Noor Ahmed (30): Resident of Bhagalpur, Bihar.
- Abdullah (36): Resident of Madhepura, Bihar.
- Aamir Ansari (34): Resident of Kishanganj, Bihar.
- Ismail (28): Also injured in the collapse.
They were taken to the Community Health Center in Siyar for treatment. Noor Ahmed was later referred to the district hospital because of his serious condition. The bridge is being constructed by RNC Infra Engineering Private Limited, and local people are now questioning the safety measures at the site.
