Gurugram Traffic Police has seized a Hero Splendor Plus motorcycle after discovering pending challans worth ₹4.81 lakh against it. The incident took place at the Dundahera border on Thursday when traffic officials stopped a rider for not wearing a helmet. Upon checking the records, the police found that the bike had accumulated 41 challans in just one year, with the total fine amount exceeding the actual value of the motorcycle by nearly five times.

What violations led to this massive fine?

The motorcycle, a 2014 model registered in Jind, was being ridden by a man named Sumit who works at a mall. When Zonal Officer ASI Ashok stopped him, multiple violations were found during the inspection. The pending fines were due to repeated offenses committed over the last year. The police investigation revealed the following violations:

  • Riding without a helmet
  • Driving without a license
  • Missing third-party insurance
  • No Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate
  • Absence of High Security Registration Plate (HSRP)
  • Broken number plate

Police action on habitual violators

DCP Traffic Dr. Rajesh Mohan stated that this seizure is part of a strict crackdown on vehicle owners who ignore traffic fines. Under the current rules, if challans remain unpaid for more than 90 days, the traffic police have the authority to impound the vehicle under the Motor Vehicles Act. Since the fines on this bike had been pending for a long time, the vehicle was immediately seized. The bike will only be released after the owner settles the dues in court.
