How did the fire start inside the parked bus?
Initial investigations by the Delhi Police suggest that the fire might have been caused by an incense stick (agarbatti). It is suspected that Sunil Sharma had lit the incense stick inside the vehicle before going to sleep. The burning stick likely came into contact with flammable materials inside the bus, triggering the blaze while the helper was asleep.
The fire spread quickly through the vehicle, causing severe damage. By the time the flames were brought under control, the bus was badly burnt, and the helper could not escape. Police are further verifying if any other safety lapses contributed to this fatal accident.

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received an emergency call regarding the fire at 12:33 AM on February 8, 2026. Acting swiftly, they dispatched three fire tenders to the location at Janakpuri Fish Market. The firefighters worked for over an hour to fully extinguish the massive blaze.
Currently, authorities are also checking the permit status of the private bus.
