Greater Noida Police have arrested two individuals following a raid on a house in Sector 36 on Sunday. Officials received information that a religious gathering was taking place where people were allegedly being lured into converting to Christianity. ACP Arvind Kumar confirmed that the Beta-2 Police Station team took immediate action upon receiving the tip-off.
What happened at the Sector 36 house?
Police reached House No. B-224 in Sector 36 after locals and members of Hindu organizations reported suspicious activities. A prayer meeting was in progress in the basement with around 60 to 70 people present. Reports suggest that poor families were being promised financial aid and miraculous healing for illnesses as an incentive for conversion.
The police team arrived at the spot and detained several people for questioning. During the search, officers seized a significant quantity of religious literature, crosses, candles, and other prayer-related materials from the basement of the house.
Who has been arrested in this case?
After initial questioning, the police formally arrested two men identified as Suresh Kumar and Chandrakiran. Suresh is a resident of Sigma-2 and originally hails from Banswara, Rajasthan, while Chandrakiran is a resident of Aichhar. Suresh has been identified as the primary organizer of the event.
A case has been registered against them under the relevant sections of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act. The police are now investigating the funding sources behind this event and checking if similar meetings have been held in other parts of the district over the last few years.
