A recent safety report released on February 8, 2026, has raised concerns for millions of households using packet milk. A verified content creator named Trustified conducted blind lab tests on popular pasteurized cow milk brands like Amul, Mother Dairy, and Country Delight. The samples were collected from various states across India. The findings show that several milk pouches contained bacteria levels much higher than the safety limits set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Lab Results of Milk Brands
The test focused on checking the Total Plate Count (TPC) and coliform bacteria in the milk. According to FSSAI rules, the bacteria count in pasteurized milk should not go above 30,000 CFU/ml. The lab report shows that milk sold in common plastic pouches failed to meet these standards. However, the report clarified that these issues were found in loose pouches, not in the long-life tetra packs.
| Brand Name | Product Type | Lab Finding |
|---|---|---|
| Amul | Taaza Pouch | Coliform bacteria 98 times above limit |
| Mother Dairy | Cow Milk | Bacteria count 8 times above limit |
| Country Delight | Cow Milk | Bacteria count 2 times above limit |
| Amul | Tetra Pack | 0 Microorganisms (Passed) |
Difference Between Pouch and Tetra Pack
The investigation highlights a big gap in quality between plastic pouches and tetra packs. While the Amul Taaza pouch had very high coliform levels, the Amul Tetra Pack tested completely clean with zero microorganisms. This is likely because tetra packs go through UHT processing which kills more bacteria compared to standard pasteurization used for pouches.
As of now, brands like Amul, Mother Dairy, or Country Delight have not released any official statement regarding this specific video from February 8. Earlier in January, Amul had denied similar claims about their Dahi (curd), stating their products go through strict quality checks. Customers are currently waiting for a response to understand if these were bad batches or a bigger issue.
