Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a major new welfare initiative for girl children in the capital. The state government has decided to close the existing Ladli Yojana and replace it with a new scheme named ‘Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’. This announcement comes just ahead of the government’s first anniversary celebrations. The new plan aims to provide better financial support to families and encourages higher education for daughters.
What are the financial benefits of the new scheme?
The government has significantly increased the financial aid provided to girl children. Under the old Ladli scheme, the total corpus was ₹36,000, but this has now been raised to ₹56,000 per child. The Chief Minister stated that this change is made to ensure girls get substantial help for their future.
The maturity amount has also been updated. Beneficiaries will now receive a maturity sum of at least ₹1 Lakh. However, this full amount will only be given when the girl completes her Graduation. This is a shift from the previous rules where benefits were often linked to completing the 12th grade.
Who is eligible and what are the rules?
The government has laid down specific guidelines for families who want to avail of this benefit. The scheme is scheduled to launch officially in April 2026.
- Residency: The child and her family must be permanent residents of Delhi.
- Limit: The benefit is available for up to two daughters per household.
- Marriage Age: There is a strict condition regarding age. If the parents marry off the daughter before she turns 18, the family will not receive any benefits from this scheme.
- Education: The focus is on higher studies, so the maturity fund is linked to completing a college degree.
