A 32-year-old laborer died after falling into an open sewer manhole in Rohini Sector 32 on Monday evening. The victim, identified as Birju Kumar Rai, was a native of Bihar working in Delhi. The incident took place on a vacant DDA plot near the Mahashakti Kali Mandir. Police recovered the body on Tuesday afternoon following a report by the victim’s friend.

Why was the incident reported late?
The incident occurred around 7:30 PM on February 9, but the police received the call only at 2:36 PM the next day. Birju was with his friend Budhan Das at the time of the fall. Police statements suggest that both were intoxicated while returning to their jhuggi. Budhan did not inform anyone immediately because of his state. He only notified another friend on Tuesday after realizing what had happened.
