Travelers at Indian airports can finally get relief from overpriced food and beverages. The government has successfully launched ‘Udaan Yatri Cafe’ outlets to serve food at highly affordable rates. This move came after Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha raised the issue of paying Rs 100 for water and Rs 250 for tea during the winter session of Parliament. The initiative is a joint effort by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to make air travel more inclusive for the common man.

Locations and Operational Rules
This facility started as a pilot project in Kolkata in December 2024. It is now active in airports like Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Itanagar, and Vijayawada. The government aims to expand this to all AAI-run airports soon, with plans for Delhi and Mumbai in the pipeline. According to the rules, only one ‘Udaan Yatri Cafe’ is allowed per airport to offer a cheaper alternative alongside existing premium outlets.
Recently, a video by influencer Piyush Tripathi regarding the Pune outlet went viral. He showed how he purchased snacks for just Rs 20. The Pune airport outlet is special because it is fully managed by women staff. MP Raghav Chadha also shared this update, expressing satisfaction that common citizens can now afford food at airports without spending a large amount.
