Residents of Delhi are witnessing a dip in air quality once again as the AQI has shifted back to the ‘Very Poor’ category. The Central Pollution Control Board recorded the index at 305 on February 11, which is a significant rise from the previous day. While the days are getting warmer, weather experts have shared a new forecast regarding rain next week that might impact the current conditions.

Which areas are most affected by pollution?

Several neighborhoods in the capital reported high pollution levels recently. Data shows that Wazirpur recorded an AQI of 378, while ITO and Rohini stood at 355 and 349 respectively. To manage this situation, authorities are enforcing GRAP Stage II rules, which include bans on coal usage in hotels and strict checks on vehicle pollution certificates. The CAQM has also issued new norms for mechanized road sweeping to reduce dust on the streets.

What is the weather forecast for the coming days?

The current temperature is running higher than usual, with the maximum reaching 27.5°C. However, relief is expected soon as a Western Disturbance approaches the region. Meteorologists predict that scattered rain or drizzling will likely occur on the night of February 16 or during the day on February 17. Following February 14, wind speeds are also expected to pick up, reaching 15-20 kmph, which may assist in lowering pollution levels.
