The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Delhi Police for allegedly taking a bribe of 10 lakh rupees. Sunder Pal Singh was posted at the Chittaranjan Park police station in South Delhi. The arrest happened during a trap operation on Tuesday evening after a complaint was filed by a legal consultant. The officer was caught while accepting the cash as part of a larger demand to settle a property dispute.
What happened during the CBI trap operation
On February 7, a complaint was made stating that the officer wanted 25 lakh rupees to stop legal action in a property matter. The CBI registered a formal case on February 10 and sent a team to catch the officer red-handed. The ASI accepted 10 lakh rupees as a part-payment before the CBI team moved in and recovered the money. Investigations are currently ongoing to find out if any other individuals or middlemen were involved in this deal.
Key facts of the bribery case
This is the second time in two days that a Delhi Police official has been caught for bribery by the CBI. Previously, an ASI named Om Prakash was arrested in West Delhi for a different case. The authorities are now conducting searches at multiple locations linked to the accused officer to gather more evidence regarding the corruption case.
