A heartbreaking tragedy struck a family from Rohini on Thursday morning as they were returning to Delhi to celebrate the upcoming Holi festival. The fatal accident occurred on National Highway 9 (NH-9) near the Ghazipur area in East Delhi. A white Kia Seltos SUV, travelling at high speed, crashed into a stationary container truck. The impact was severe, resulting in the death of a 55-year-old woman and her daughter on the spot, while three others, including two children, sustained injuries.

How did the fatal crash occur in Ghazipur?

The incident took place between 6:10 AM and 6:30 AM on Thursday, February 12, 2026. The family had started their journey from Dehradun around 2:00 AM to reach their home in Rohini. As the vehicle reached near the MCD toll plaza close to Vinod Nagar Depot, it swerved sharply and rammed into a truck parked on the roadside. Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the car was moving at a speed of approximately 100 kmph. It is suspected that the driver, Deepanshu Garg, might have dozed off at the wheel due to fatigue after driving for nearly 8 hours.

Who are the victims and what is the current status?

Neelam Garg (55) and her daughter Deepanjali (38) lost their lives in this crash. Rescue teams, including disaster management personnel, had to cut the mangled metal of the car to pull the victims out. Deepanjali’s 3-year-old son, Vashu, suffered critical head injuries and has undergone brain surgery at Max Hospital. Her other son, Vivan, and the driver Deepanshu are also under medical care. The Delhi Police have registered an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving and causing death by negligence.
