Commuters and visitors heading to the busy commercial hub of Nehru Place in New Delhi have received a major relief regarding parking struggles. On Monday, February 16, 2026, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, inaugurated a new multi-level car parking facility at the Nehru Place District Centre. This project, developed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), is designed specifically to tackle the heavy congestion and lack of parking space that has troubled the area for years.
Capacity and Key Features of the Facility
The newly constructed six-storey building stands as a modern solution to the city’s infrastructure needs. Built with an investment of approximately ₹60 crore, the facility offers a substantial capacity for vehicles. It can accommodate 650 cars and 352 two-wheelers at any given time. Officials project that on a rotational basis, the parking lot will serve around 2,000 vehicles daily, significantly reducing the load on surface parking.
To ensure a smooth experience for the public, the DDA has equipped the facility with several modern amenities. The key features include:
- Automated Ticketing: A system to ensure quick entry and exit without long queues.
- Security: Full CCTV surveillance and modern firefighting systems are in place.
- EV Ready: Provisions for electric vehicle charging have been included.
- Lighting: The entire structure uses energy-efficient LED lighting.
Focus on Collaborative Development
During the inauguration event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted the importance of teamwork in city development. She noted that the successful completion of this project was a result of the collaborative efforts between the Central Government, the Lieutenant Governor, and the Delhi government. The CM stated that such synergy is essential to resolve major civic issues like inadequate parking space, which often leads to traffic jams.
Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena was also acknowledged for his proactive role in monitoring the project’s progress. With this new facility operational, authorities expect a significant reduction in illegal roadside parking, which will clear up the roads for smoother traffic flow in the Nehru Place area.
