The global technology focus is shifting rapidly from Dubai to India with the start of the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. The event, which began on February 16, follows the recent ‘Road to AI Impact Summit’ held in Dubai earlier this month. While Dubai has been a major attraction for tech developments, India is now asserting its position as a global AI hub. The spotlight is currently on Sarvam AI, an Indian startup that has reportedly outperformed tech giants like Google and OpenAI in recent benchmark tests.
Why is Sarvam AI considered better than foreign models?
Sarvam AI is gaining popularity because it is designed specifically for Indian conditions and languages. Its new ‘Sarvam Vision’ model achieved a score of 84.3% on the olmOCR-Bench test, scoring higher than Google’s Gemini 3 Pro and ChatGPT. This tool is particularly good at understanding Indian government documents, handwritten papers, and complex tables.
Another major feature is ‘Bulbul V3’, a text-to-speech model that supports 22 Indian languages. Unlike other robotic voices, this model understands Indian accents and ‘Hinglish’ very well, making it sound natural. Being a ‘Sovereign AI’, all data processed by Sarvam remains within India, ensuring data security and compliance with local laws.
What are the prices and government offers?
The Indian government has selected Sarvam AI to build the country’s first indigenous Large Language Model under the IndiaAI Mission. The project is backed by a Rs 10,300 crore mission and has access to 4,000 high-end GPUs. To encourage usage, the company is offering Rs 1,000 in free credits to new users, and the Document Intelligence API is completely free for the month of February 2026.
