In a time when people often worry about trust and safety, two heartwarming stories from Delhi NCR have restored faith in humanity. Two scrap dealers, one from Delhi and another from Faridabad, have returned gold and silver jewelry worth lakhs to their original owners. These owners had accidentally sold the valuable items along with old scrap material, having lost hope of ever seeing them again.
Ashraf Finds Gold in Old Almirah in Rohini
The first incident took place in Rohini Sector-26, Delhi. A resident named Chandni Kumari sold her old iron almirah to a local scrap dealer named Ashraf on a Sunday. In a rush, she forgot that she had kept gold and silver jewelry worth approximately Rs 10 lakh inside the locker of that cupboard.
When Ashraf took the cupboard to his shop and opened it, he was surprised to find the bag of jewelry. Instead of keeping the fortune for himself, he immediately tracked down the family to return it. When Chandni and her family tried to give him Rs 3,000 as a reward for his honesty, Ashraf refused to take the money, saying it was simply his duty to return what was not his.
Haji Akhtar Khan Returns 15 Lakh Gold in Faridabad
A similar example of honesty came from Faridabad, Haryana. A family led by Ashok Sharma had accidentally sold a bag containing gold ornaments during their Diwali cleaning drive. The bag contained about 100 grams of gold worth nearly Rs 15 lakh. The scrap dealer, Haji Akhtar Khan, realized the mistake and searched his warehouse for months to find that specific bag.
Once he found the jewelry, Khan contacted the police to ensure the items were returned formally. In the presence of ACP Jitesh Malhotra, the gold was handed back to the Sharma family. The police officials praised Khan, stating that such actions are a true inspiration for society.
