Commuters facing daily congestion on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway can finally hope for a smoother ride. The Noida Authority has decided to aggressively push for the completion of a 45-meter-wide parallel sector road that acts as a “Plan B” corridor. Authority CEO Krishna Karunesh recently held a high-level meeting with district officials to clear the hurdles blocking this project. The administration has now deposited the necessary funds to acquire the remaining patches of land, signaling that work will resume soon on this vital route.
Why is the Project Stuck?
The backup corridor is a six-lane road designed to take the load off the main expressway. While most of the 25-kilometer stretch is built and ready, the road cannot be fully used because of three specific gaps. These interruptions are located between Sector 163 and Sector 167 and involve just about 2.5 acres of land.
Farmers in the area have held back the land, measuring 74 meters, 75 meters, and 81.5 meters respectively. Their main demand has been “land-for-land” compensation within city limits rather than monetary settlements. To resolve this, the Authority is working closely with the district administration to finalize the acquisition under state policies so the road can be connected end-to-end.
Benefits for Local Residents
Once completed, this arterial road will be a game-changer for residents living in the growing sectors along the expressway. Currently, people are forced to merge onto the high-speed expressway even for short local trips, which creates bottlenecks and slows down traffic for everyone. This new route will serve residents of the following sectors directly:
- Sector 128 and 135
- Sector 150, 151, and 152
- Sector 153 and 155
- Sector 163, 167, and 168
Preparing for Future Traffic
The rush to finish this project is not just about current traffic but also about the future. With the Noida International Airport coming up, traffic volume is expected to explode on the main expressway. This 45-meter wide road is seen as the most practical fix to handle the extra load from the airport as well as traffic from DND Flyway and Kalindi Kunj. Deputy General Manager Vijay Rawal is overseeing the project on the ground to ensure that once the land is handed over, the construction of the missing links is completed without delay.
