Panic struck the Kashmiri Gate area on Tuesday night when unidentified attackers opened fire at a car near the famous Marghat Wale Hanuman Mandir. The incident took place between 10:10 PM and 10:30 PM in the Yamuna Bazar area. The vehicle was carrying five people, including Deepak Khatri, a lawyer associated with the legal team of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. While the lawyer remained safe, his associate Sandeep suffered a bullet injury to his shoulder.

Who was the target and who claimed responsibility?

According to police investigations, the primary target of the attack was Deepak Khatri. Shortly after the incident, a social media post surfaced in the name of gangster Naveen Boxer, claiming responsibility for the shooting. The post reportedly warned the lawyer to stop acting as a “middleman and informer” for Lawrence Bishnoi. The attackers arrived on a two-wheeler, fired multiple rounds, and managed to flee the spot. The driver of the car showed presence of mind and drove the vehicle away to safety. The injured person, Sandeep, is currently in stable condition.

What actions have the Delhi Police taken so far?

The Delhi Police have registered an FIR at the Kashmiri Gate Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 109(1) for Attempt to Murder and Section 3(5) for Criminal Conspiracy, along with the Arms Act. DCP North Raja Banthia confirmed the presence of five occupants in the car and stated that verification of the attackers’ vehicle is ongoing. Police teams are scanning CCTV footage from the ISBT and temple area to track the route of the shooters. Forensic teams have also collected evidence, including empty bullet shells, from the crime scene.
