LPG Price Hike: Domestic Cylinder Gets Costlier by Rs 60, Commercial Gas Rates Up by Rs 115

Households across India will have to pay more for cooking gas starting today as Oil Marketing Companies have announced a price revision. Effective from Saturday, March 7, 2026, the price of domestic LPG cylinders has been hiked by Rs 60. This increase ends a long pause in rate changes, as this is the first hike for household gas in 11 months. Along with domestic users, commercial establishments like hotels and restaurants will also face higher costs, with the price of the 19-kg commercial cylinder increasing by Rs 115.

New LPG Cylinder Prices in Metro Cities

With this latest update, the cost of a standard 14.2 kg cylinder has crossed the Rs 900 mark in several major cities. The prices vary slightly depending on the state due to local tax structures. The commercial cylinder has seen its third hike since the start of the year, putting additional pressure on small businesses. Below is the updated price list for major metro cities effective immediately:

Reason Behind the Hike and Government Relief

The sudden increase in prices is attributed to the rising cost of energy in the international market, driven by the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Oil companies mentioned that global benchmarks like the Saudi Contract Price have spiked recently. However, the government has kept a safety net for the poor. Beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will not face the burden of this hike. Their subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder continues, keeping their effective cost the same as before.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri addressed the situation and assured the public that there is no shortage of fuel. He stated that despite global supply chain issues, India has secured enough stock through long-term contracts. Indian Oil Corporation also advised citizens not to panic-book cylinders, confirming that supply lines are functioning normally across the country.
