Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to give a major boost to public transport in the national capital. On March 8, 2026, he will visit the DDA Ground on Burari Road to inaugurate two new metro corridors and lay the foundation stone for three more. This massive expansion project involves an investment of over ₹18,300 crore and aims to reduce traffic congestion across the city. The event will begin at 10:00 AM and is expected to be attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and senior officials from the DMRC.
Which New Lines Will Be Inaugurated?
The focus of the inauguration is on completing critical sections of the Phase 4 project. The Prime Minister will open the Pink Line Extension stretching from Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur. This 12.3 km elevated route is very significant as it finally completes the loop, creating India’s first “Ring Metro” network with a total length of 71.56 km. Residents of Burari, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Sonia Vihar, and Bhajanpura will now have direct metro connectivity.
Another key inauguration is the Magenta Line Extension from Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park. This 9.92 km route covers seven stations, including Madhuban Chowk and Haiderpur Badli Mor. This section is an engineering highlight, featuring one of the highest elevated tracks in the network at over 28 meters.
