A heartbreaking incident has come to light in F-Block, Malviya Nagar, where two sisters were found dead inside their home on Thursday evening. The police found their mother, Sunita, in an unconscious state with slit wrists. Authorities suspect that the 50-year-old woman killed her two daughters before attempting suicide. The mother is currently critical and receiving treatment at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
What evidence did the police find at the scene?
The police recovered crushed naphthalene balls, a crepe bandage, and a pillow from the ground-floor apartment. Investigators believe the naphthalene balls were used to create a poisonous concoction. The elder daughter, Radhika (33), who was a special child, appeared to have been smothered with a pillow.
The younger daughter, Gunisha (28), a law graduate, was found strangled with a crepe bandage. She also had cut marks on her hands, indicating a possible struggle. Medical reports are awaited to confirm the exact sequence of events. The mother had allegedly consumed phenyl or camphor along with the naphthalene balls.
Why did this tragedy happen?
The police are investigating multiple angles, including long-term depression and domestic issues. Neighbours mentioned that the family was very isolated and rarely interacted with others in the area. Reports suggest that Sunita and her husband, Sudhir Arora, had strained relations and had not spoken to each other properly for years.
The husband runs a garment shop and was not present at the time of the incident. Financial stress related to the younger daughter’s education is also being looked into as a potential trigger for this extreme step. Police will record Sunita’s official statement once she regains consciousness.
