Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta traveled in a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus on Saturday to inspect the ground-level implementation of the newly launched Saheli Pink Smart Card. The Chief Minister took the bus journey from Ludlow Castle to Ramjas College to personally check how the digital ticketing system is working for women commuters. She demonstrated the ‘tap-to-board’ process and spoke with passengers to understand their experience with the shift from paper tickets to digital cards.
How the Saheli Smart Card works
The Saheli Pink Smart Card was officially launched by President Droupadi Murmu on March 2, 2026. This digital card replaces the previous pink paper tickets used for free travel by women. The card allows eligible women and transgender residents of Delhi to travel for free in all DTC and Orange Cluster buses. It also functions as a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), which means users can use it for paid travel on the Delhi Metro and RRTS if they recharge it manually.
Registration centers and documents needed
To get this card, residents need to visit one of the 50 authorized centers set up across the city. These centers are located at DTC depots like Kashmere Gate and Nehru Place, SDM offices, and university campuses. The counters operate daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Applicants must provide an Aadhaar Card with a valid Delhi address and a mobile number for verification. Officials stated that the digital record of journeys will help the transport department analyze routes better and ensure transparency.
