A speeding cluster bus lost control on the Najafgarh-Nangloi road in New Delhi on Monday morning, crushing several vehicles and pedestrians. The accident claimed the lives of two men and left two others critically injured. Following the crash, a massive crowd of around 500 angry locals gathered at the spot, vandalizing several buses and setting one on fire before police intervened to take control of the situation.

Details of the Victims and the Accident

The incident took place around 9:45 AM near Amanpuri Chowk in the Nihal Vihar area of Outer Delhi. The bus driver, identified as Deepak, reportedly lost control and rammed into two motorcycles, a scooty, a rickshaw, and multiple pedestrians.

  • Ravikant Sharma (32): A resident of Nihal Vihar who ran a transport business. He was on his scooty and was dragged by the bus for about 100 meters.
  • Kamaljeet (39): A resident of Shivram Park who worked as a salesman in Khari Baoli. He was traveling to his office on a motorcycle when the accident happened.
  • Injured Persons: Aman (23) and Rubi Kumari (20) were traveling on another bike and suffered severe injuries. They are currently undergoing treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

Mob Violence and Police Action

Immediately after the fatal accident, the situation escalated quickly as an angry mob of nearly 500 people blocked the road. The crowd expressed their anger by vandalizing five to six buses passing through the route and completely burning down one cluster bus.

DCP (Outer) Vikram Singh confirmed that a PCR call was received at 9:45 AM and heavy police force was quickly deployed to restore order in the area. The situation is currently under control and teams are monitoring the route to maintain law and order.

Police have arrested the bus driver, Deepak, and registered a case of rash driving and causing death by negligence. A separate FIR has also been filed against the unidentified miscreants involved in the vandalism and arson.

Demands of the Victims Families

Eyewitnesses at the scene alleged that two cluster buses were racing each other on the narrow road, which led to the fatal loss of control. This tragic incident has triggered widespread anger among the local residents regarding the reckless driving of cluster buses in the city.

The family of deceased Ravikant Sharma, which includes his wife and a five-year-old daughter, has demanded financial compensation from the government. They have also requested a government job for his widow to secure the future of the family.
