The ongoing military conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran is escalating, raising serious global security and economic concerns. Former National Security Advisor MK Narayanan warned on Wednesday that the situation could turn into a long-drawn-out crisis affecting the entire world. Meanwhile, the Indian government confirmed the tragic loss of two Indian nationals in the region and is taking immediate measures to protect domestic energy supplies.
What are the experts saying about the war?
Former NSA MK Narayanan stated that because the US is taking a lead role, the duration of the conflict remains unpredictable. He noted that while Iran might suffer the most, the economic impact will be heavily felt globally.
Adding to this, Former Deputy NSA Pankaj Saran described the situation as a massive military campaign by the US. He mentioned that the US seems focused on its objectives despite international pressure, and advised India to keep diplomatic communication channels open.
Conversely, US President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that the war would end soon, claiming there is practically nothing left to target after sustained American strikes.
How is India protecting its citizens?
The Ministry of External Affairs is actively monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of Indians working and living in the region. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the deaths of two Indian nationals, while one person remains missing amid the chaos.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran is currently on high alert. Authorities are assisting citizens who wish to leave the country by facilitating their return through neighboring land routes. Following a strict India First diplomacy approach, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also held discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to assess the escalating Middle East crisis.
Will the conflict affect LPG and energy supply in India?
The government is taking steps to shield the common man from global supply disruptions caused by the volatility in the Strait of Hormuz. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reported a 25 percent increase in domestic LPG production to prioritize household consumers.
Indian refineries are currently operating at full capacity to meet local demand. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan recently chaired a high-level meeting with state police chiefs to ensure uninterrupted LPG distribution across the country.
Despite these measures, state officials in Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal have issued warnings about potential LPG rationing if the Middle East crisis continues to disrupt global fuel supply chains.
