A major fire broke out on Friday morning, March 27, 2026, in a three-story residential building located in the Ganeshpur area of Trinagar, Keshavpuram. The incident occurred around 7:10 AM, trapping six members of a single family on the first floor. Emergency teams, including three fire tenders from the Delhi Fire Service and local police from Keshavpuram Police Station, reached the spot to carry out rescue operations.

Details of the incident and the cause of fire

According to initial investigations, the fire started on the ground floor due to a short-circuit near a water motor. The flames spread rapidly through the stairwell as cosmetic items and a motorcycle stored there caught fire. This blocked the exit path for the residents living on the upper floors. North-West District DCP Akanksha Yadav stated that the police were alerted at 7:10 AM and the fire was brought under control after immediate intervention by the fire department.

Information about the injured family members

Six people sustained burn injuries and were evacuated from the building. The family members suffered approximately 15% burns while trying to escape the smoke and heat. The names of the injured are provided in the list below:

  • Bharat Lal (32) and Preetam Lal (30)
  • Anita (55) and Vandana (24)
  • Moni (27) and three-year-old Somiya

While all victims received primary medical aid at a nearby hospital, the condition of the four women remained serious. Consequently, they were referred to Safdarjung Hospital for further treatment. Police are currently recording statements from the victims and the process of registering a case is underway to investigate the matter further.
