The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Delhi Police has taken strong action against a large e-cigarette smuggling network operating in Delhi and Haryana. On March 28, 2026, authorities seized a total of 20 cartons of banned e-cigarettes and arrested three individuals involved in the illegal trade. The market value of the seized e-cigarettes is estimated to be around 27 lakh rupees, marking a significant win in the fight against illegal substance trade.
How Was This Operation Carried Out?
The operation began with a tip-off received by Head Constable Ramkesh about the illegal sale and storage of banned e-cigarettes at a pan shop named “Smoke N Puff” in C.R. Park, South Delhi. Following this intelligence, a team supervised by Inspector Mahipal Singh and ACP Satendra Mohan conducted a raid. During the raid, one of the arrested individuals, Ritwik, identified his supplier as Zeeshan alias Jassu. Further investigation led the team to Zeeshan’s home in Laxman Nagar, Ballabgarh, where they recovered all 20 cartons of e-cigarettes.
What Does The Law Say About E-Cigarettes?
In India, e-cigarettes are completely banned under the “Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes (Production, Manufacture, Import, Export, Transport, Sale, Distribution, Storage and Advertisement) Act, 2019.” This law prohibits their production, sale, import, and storage. Violating it can result in up to one year in jail or a one lakh rupee fine. Simply possessing e-cigarettes can lead to six months in jail or a 50,000 rupee fine. The Central Health Ministry reaffirmed the ban in February 2026, stating there are no plans to lift or change it, and specifically ruled out ‘heat-not-burn’ devices like IQOS.
What Was The Value Of The Seized Items?
Police officials stated that the 20 cartons of e-cigarettes seized have a market value of approximately 27 lakh rupees. The accused individuals were reportedly purchasing these e-cigarettes at prices ranging from 800-900 rupees per piece. They would then sell them at much higher prices, making substantial illegal profits. The Delhi Police’s ANTF works dedicatedly to protect Delhi from the dangers of narcotics through enforcement, awareness, and rehabilitation support.
