Gokulpuri Building Fire: Residents Jump from First Floor to Escape Smoke, 8 People Rescued

A massive fire broke out in the parking area of a residential building in the Gokulpuri area of North East Delhi during the early hours of Sunday. The incident took place around 2:30 AM in F-Block, Chand Bagh, near Bhajanpura. Smoke from the burning vehicles quickly filled the upper floors of the five-story structure, creating panic among the residents. The Delhi Fire Service managed to bring the situation under control by 3:50 AM after deploying 11 fire tenders to the spot.

Who were injured and how did they escape?

As the smoke spread rapidly through the narrow building structure, four people including a small child decided to jump from the first floor to save their lives. They sustained minor injuries and were immediately rushed to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital for medical attention. Most of them were discharged after receiving primary treatment. The authorities noted that the smoke filled the building quickly, making it difficult for residents to use the stairs.

The fire started from two scooters and one motorcycle parked on the ground floor. While some residents jumped, eight others including children were trapped on the second, third, and fourth floors due to the thick smoke. Firefighters used ladders and safety equipment to rescue them safely from the building. The police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire in the parking area.
