South Delhi is set for a major infrastructure boost with the construction of a new 5-kilometer road along the Agra Canal. This project is designed to provide better connectivity between Delhi, Noida, and Faridabad, offering a much-needed alternative to the heavily congested Ashram-Kalindi Kunj route. The Central Government is funding this project with an estimated budget of 40 crore rupees to ensure smoother movement for lakhs of daily commuters in the NCR region.

Route and Connectivity Benefits

The new two-lane road will primarily run from Ali Vihar to Mathura Road, creating a strategic bypass for local traffic. It is expected to drastically reduce the bottle-neck situations often seen at the Kalindi Kunj junction and surrounding areas of South-East Delhi. Additionally, the road will link with the Madanpur Khadar bridge, providing residents of Ali village a direct connection to the DND-Faridabad-Sohna highway.

Current Status and Project Approvals

  • Total Length: 5 kilometers along the Agra Canal
  • Project Cost: Approximately 40 crore rupees funded by the Centre
  • Land Ownership: The required land is under the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department
  • Official Action: Union Minister Harsh Malhotra has sent a formal request to UP CM Yogi Adityanath for the necessary land approvals
  • Executing Agency: The Public Works Department (PWD) will handle the construction once the NOC is received

While the funds are ready, the project currently waits for the final No Objection Certificate from the Uttar Pradesh government. Local officials expect the approval soon, which will allow the PWD to start work on the ground. Once completed, this stretch will serve as a vital link for those traveling towards the Noida International Airport and other major commercial hubs in the region.
