Power Minister Ashish Sood has chaired a high-level meeting to speed up the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) across Delhi. The government aims to complete the remaining 4 lakh connections to reach the city’s full capacity of 18 lakh households. During the meeting held on March 30, 2026, officials were told to make the application process simpler and more citizen-friendly. The department will now conduct an intensive door-to-door campaign to encourage residents to adopt PNG as a cleaner and safer alternative to cylinders.

New Rules for PNG Connections and Application Process
To get a new PNG connection, residents need to apply through Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), which is the sole supplier in the city. The Power Minister directed officials to simplify the paperwork and ensure transparency to avoid any inconvenience to the public. Applicants need to submit a registration form along with KYC documents like identity proof and ownership papers. If a resident is living in a rented property, an NOC from the owner is required to proceed with the installation.
- Apply through the official IGL portal or registration forms
- Submit identity and ownership proof for KYC
- NOC required for tenants from property owners
- Officials to work in mission mode to clear pending requests
- Intensive door-to-door awareness campaigns to start soon
Current Charges and Connection Costs in Delhi
One of the biggest advantages of PNG is that it is a pollution-free fuel and provides an uninterrupted supply without the need for cylinder bookings. The current retail price in Delhi is set at Rs. 48.59 per SCM. IGL provides the conversion of existing LPG stove burners to natural gas burners for free. The government is also looking to expand the network in congested areas using modern technology.

Expansion Plans for Narrow Lanes and Public Services
The Delhi government is planning to use specialized technology to lay pipelines in narrow lanes and multi-storey buildings where traditional methods are difficult. PNG will also be prioritized in public welfare schemes like Atal Canteens, night shelters, and mid-day meal kitchens. The Minister has instructed the Urban Development Department, MCD, and Delhi Jal Board to coordinate and expedite pipeline laying in areas still dependent on cylinders. Promotion of PNG will also be seen in restaurants, hotels, and religious places like Gurudwaras and Temples.
