Commuters using the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) and NH-9 will now have to pay higher charges as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has implemented new toll rates. The increase became effective from the midnight of March 31, 2026. This hike ranges between 5 rupees and 45 rupees depending on the vehicle category and is part of the annual 5% adjustment for the financial year 2026-27. This move is expected to impact daily travelers and the logistics sector significantly.

How much will the new toll cost for different vehicles?

The toll for light vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans traveling from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut has been increased to 175 rupees for a one-way trip. For those returning within 24 hours, the revised rate is 265 rupees. Buses and trucks with two axles will now pay 595 rupees for a single journey and 890 rupees for a return trip. The monthly pass for light vehicles on this stretch is now set at 5840 rupees. These adjustments reflect the rising maintenance and operational costs of the expressway network.

Strict rules for FASTag and cashless payments

NHAI has announced that all toll plazas on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, including the Kashi toll plaza, have transitioned to a completely cashless system. Commuters must ensure their FASTag is active and has sufficient balance to avoid any inconvenience during their journey.

  • Cash payments are no longer accepted at any toll booth.
  • Vehicles without a functional FASTag will be charged a double penalty fee.
  • Commuters can use UPI or QR code scanning via Android mobile phones if they do not have a FASTag.
  • Blacklisted FASTags will also attract double the standard toll amount.

New Toll Rates at Major Points

The price hike also extends to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. Below are the key changes for one-way journeys:
