Among the recipients was the family of ASI Radhe Shyam from the Delhi Police Traffic Unit, who died while performing his duties during the pandemic. The government stated that this financial aid is a symbol of their resolve to stand by the families of those who sacrificed everything for the safety of Delhi’s citizens. The official statement noted that while no amount of money can compensate for the loss of a life, this support reflects the government’s commitment to remember their sacrifice.

The Delhi government first announced this ₹1 crore compensation policy in 2020 for frontline workers including medical staff, police personnel, sanitation workers, and teachers. On April 1, 2026, the Delhi High Court also directed the state government to provide a similar ex-gratia amount to the family of a school vice-principal who died while on COVID duty. This judicial intervention has reinforced the enforcement of the compensation policy for all eligible workers. The government has previously provided similar assistance to other families in 2022 and 2025 as part of its ongoing support program.
