The Delhi government has introduced the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana to provide financial support for girls from birth until they complete higher education. This new scheme replaces the old Ladli Yojana and aims to reduce school dropout rates among girl students. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the initiative to ensure every girl in the city has access to better education and a secure financial future. The scheme is set to become officially effective from April 1, 2026.
Distribution of Funds and Financial Benefits
The scheme provides a base amount that grows with interest over time. The total financial assistance is distributed in installments linked to specific educational milestones to ensure the child continues her studies. The final amount, including interest, is expected to reach approximately 1.20 lakh by the time the beneficiary reaches 21 years of age.
| Educational Milestone | Amount Provided |
|---|---|
| At Birth | ₹11,000 |
| Admission to Class 1 | ₹5,000 |
| Class 6, 9, 10, and 12 (each) | ₹5,000 |
| Graduation or Diploma Course | ₹20,000 |
All funds are securely invested through SBI Life Insurance to ensure guaranteed returns for the girls. The final payment is transferred directly to the Aadhar-linked bank account of the beneficiary once she completes her graduation or turns 21 years old.
