The Delhi government has launched the first phase of enrolment for the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana starting April 1, 2026. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the initiative aims to ensure no girl child drops out of school due to a lack of funds, with the total benefits crossing ₹1 lakh upon maturity including interest.
How will the financial assistance be distributed?
The Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana provides direct financial help that is transferred to the beneficiary’s account in stages linked to their educational progress. The money is managed by SBI Life to ensure it grows with interest over time. The government deposit reaches up to ₹61,000, which is designed to mature to over ₹1.20 lakh when the girl reaches adulthood. The breakdown of the installments is as follows:

Eligibility criteria and rules for application
To qualify for the scheme, the girl child must be born in Delhi and the family must have lived in the city for at least three years. The annual family income should not exceed ₹1.20 lakh, and the benefit is limited to two daughters per family. The girl must remain unmarried until she turns 18 and must complete her mandatory immunisations to stay eligible. Applications are accepted through a dedicated online portal where parents must upload the birth certificate, residence proof, income declaration, and school records.
For children in government-run Child Care Institutions, the residency and income rules are relaxed to ensure they receive support. The accumulated funds can be withdrawn once the girl child turns 18 and passes Class 12, or completes her higher education at age 21. No premature withdrawals are allowed under the new guidelines, and the District Women and Child Development Officer will verify all applications to ensure transparency.
