How the Green Action Plan 2026-27 will be implemented
The Department of Forests and Wildlife has been appointed as the nodal agency to manage the plantation drive. Authorities have introduced an online portal to monitor the progress of all 22 departments in real-time, ensuring transparency and accountability. To encourage public participation, the government will distribute more than 12 lakh plants free of cost through various channels including the Forest Department, Delhi Parks and Gardens Society (DPGS), and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Target distribution among major departments
Different agencies have been assigned specific targets to contribute to the overall goal of 70 lakh plantations. The breakdown of major targets is as follows:
| Agency Name | Plantation Target |
|---|---|
| Department of Forests & Wildlife | 27 Lakh+ |
| Delhi Development Authority (DDA) | 10 Lakh |
| New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) | 5.05 Lakh |
| Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) | 5 Lakh |
| Public Works Department (PWD) | 3 Lakh |
Public participation and survival monitoring
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa mentioned that the initiative includes the ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam’ campaign to turn the drive into a people’s movement. This campaign encourages students, social organizations, and common citizens to plant trees in their mother’s name. A major focus of the revised framework is the long-term survival of the saplings. The government has introduced stronger oversight mechanisms to address past concerns where sapling survival rates were low, ensuring that every tree planted is properly nurtured.
