The Delhi Police Crime Branch has successfully busted a large-scale operation involving the sale of expired food products in Dwarka. Following a specific tip-off received on March 29, 2026, a raid was conducted at a godown in Sector 28. The operation revealed that expired items from multinational brands were being repackaged with forged labels and fake dates to mislead consumers.

How the Counterfeit Food Racket Functioned

During the interrogation, the accused admitted to a systematic process of cheating consumers. They procured expired or near-expiry soft drinks and biscuits from various sources. The team used thinner chemicals to erase the original manufacturing and expiry dates from the packaging. After cleaning the surface, they used a printing machine to stamp new future expiry dates and fake batch numbers. These products were then sent back to the market for sale under the guise of fresh stock in unhygienic conditions.

Details of Arrests and Items Recovered

The raid led to the arrest of three individuals involved in the scam. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) officials were also called to the site to inspect the goods. They confirmed that the licenses were missing and the labels were forged. The entire stock was seized as it posed a major health risk to the public. The following details were recorded during the operation:

  • Other Arrests: Shivam Singh and Lokesh Kumar
  • Soft Drinks Seized: 3,096 cans of various multinational brands
  • Food Items: Significant quantity of biscuits and other packaged goods
