Authorities in Loni and North Rohini have intensified operations against illegal units involved in wire burning and plastic melting. This action follows multiple complaints from residents about rising air and noise pollution in their neighborhoods. The crackdown involves sealing properties, demolishing illegal kilns, and disconnecting electricity supplies to non-compliant structures.

Details of the Enforcement Drive in Loni and Rohini
In a major operation on March 26, 2026, officials sealed 17 illegal tar processing kilns in Baheta Hajipur, Loni. Some of these structures were demolished to ensure they do not resume operations. In North Rohini, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) issued closure notices to 93 industrial units in the Hyderpur area. These units were found operating in non-conforming zones without valid permissions from the regulatory bodies.
Strict Rules and Impact on Pollution Control
The urgency of these actions is linked to recent reports where Loni was ranked as the world most polluted city in the 2025 World Air Quality Report. To combat this, authorities are taking several measures:
- Registration of FIRs against repeat offenders to ensure strict compliance with environmental laws.
- Mandatory use of gas as the sole fuel source for industries with existing gas connectivity.
- Disconnection of industrial power connections in residential and non-conforming areas.
- Joint teams from the MCD and Revenue Department are conducting surveys to identify unauthorized units.
Loni SDM Deepak Singhanwal stated that sealing alone is often not enough, which is why demolition is being carried out. Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa also confirmed that the government is committed to 100 percent compliance with pollution norms and will seal any unit found violating rules immediately.
