The Northern Railway administration has taken strict action against a booking clerk at Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi following a viral social media complaint. A video surfaced recently showing a female passenger accusing the railway employee of financial misconduct during a ticket transaction. The official authorities from the Delhi Division confirmed the suspension of the accused staff member immediately after the clip was brought to their notice.
What actually happened at the ticket counter?
The incident took place during the last week of February 2026 at the busy Anand Vihar Terminal. A female passenger, reportedly from Bihar, approached the ticket counter and handed over 1,000 rupees in the form of two 500-rupee notes. According to her statement in the video, the booking clerk returned only 800 rupees and allegedly kept 200 rupees without issuing the proper ticket or returning the full balance.
The woman stated that she works as a laborer and felt she was being targeted because she was traveling alone. She recorded the interaction to gather evidence of the cheating. In the video, she also mentioned trying to contact the emergency helpline 112 but claimed she did not receive immediate assistance at that moment.
How did the Railway authorities respond?
The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Delhi took immediate cognizance of the matter after the video gained traction online. The booking clerk involved in the incident was identified and placed under suspension with immediate effect. The railway administration has stated that disciplinary action has been initiated against the employee for this misconduct.
Railway officials emphasized that financial irregularities at counters are treated as serious offences under service rules. The Delhi Division confirmed via their official channels that the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have also advised passengers to use digital payment methods like UPI or QR codes at stations to ensure transparency and avoid cash-related disputes.
