A nationwide strike or Bharat Bandh is scheduled for Thursday, February 12, 2026. Jointly called by central trade unions and farmers’ organizations, this 24-hour protest will begin from midnight. Around 30 crore workers are expected to participate to voice their opposition against government policies regarding labor codes and privatization. Common people might face difficulties as services across more than 600 districts could be disrupted.
Services That Will Be Affected
The strike is expected to have a major impact on public services, especially banking and transport. Several public sector banks, including SBI and Bank of Baroda, have issued advisories warning that branch operations like cash deposits and cheque clearances may be delayed. While online banking will work, physical counters might be empty.
Public transport is another sector that will face disruptions. State-run buses, taxis, and auto-rickshaws may stop running in states where unions are strong, such as Kerala and West Bengal. Commuters should plan their travel in advance to avoid getting stuck. Government offices and some local markets in protest hubs are also likely to remain closed or see very low attendance.
What Will Remain Open?
Despite the strike, essential services will continue to function without interruption. Hospitals, ambulances, pharmacies, and fire services are exempt from the bandh. Utility services like electricity and water supply will also run normally throughout the day.
- Digital Banking: ATMs, mobile apps, and internet banking will be fully operational.
- Stock Markets: Trading on BSE and NSE will continue as usual.
- Airports: Flights will operate, but passengers should leave early for the airport due to possible road blockades.
- Schools: There is no nationwide order to close schools; local administrations will decide based on the situation.
