A youth from Bihar’s Sheikhpura district, Ranjit Kumar, created a massive stir by falsely claiming he cleared the UPSC Civil Services examination with the 440th rank. The deception was so effective that even a former MLA and the local police station head organized grand celebrations to honor his achievement. However, the truth surfaced when local residents noticed discrepancies in the results, forcing the fake officer to flee to Delhi before he could be caught by the authorities.

How the Deception Unfolded in Sheikhpura

Ranjit Kumar, a resident of Fatehpur village and son of a farmer, took advantage of a candidate from Karnataka who shared a similar name and secured the 440th rank in the UPSC results. After he announced his supposed success, former RJD MLA Vijay Samrat visited his home to honor him with bouquets and gifts. The celebration reached its peak when Mahuli SHO Ram Pravesh Bharti invited Ranjit to the police station for a formal felicitation. The entire village celebrated the news with sweets, unaware that the claim was entirely fabricated.

Police Action and Current Status of the Case

The fraud was eventually exposed when local youths checked the official UPSC merit list and found the actual candidate was from another state. Following these reports, SHO Ram Pravesh Bharti summoned Ranjit and asked him to produce his Admit Card and Aadhaar Card for verification. Realizing the risk of arrest, Ranjit switched off his phone and fled to Delhi. The Sheikhpura police have now launched a search for the youth, who could face serious charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for cheating and impersonation.
