The central government has introduced a new plan called ‘SHE Marts’ in the Union Budget 2026-27 to help women earn more money. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made this announcement on February 1, 2026. The government wants to take the success of the Lakhpati Didi program forward. Instead of just giving loans, the focus is now on helping women start real businesses and become entrepreneurs.

What are SHE Marts?
SHE Marts stands for Self-Help Entrepreneur Marts. These will be special shops owned by the community and run under Cluster Level Federations. The goal is to provide a proper place for women to sell their goods directly to buyers. This step will help women become full-time business owners rather than just depending on small credits. The government will also help with logistics so that products can reach customers easily without any hassle.
Online selling and easy loans
The Ministry of Rural Development has made a new online system to give loans easily for these businesses. Products made by Self Help Groups will be sold on popular websites like GeM, ONDC, and eSARAS. The government has a target to create 3 crore Lakhpati Didis, and 1.5 crore women have already achieved this status. Also, 50,000 community people will be trained to help these new businesses grow properly.
