Major Rules for Vehicles and Traffic De-congestion

The Delhi government has set a strict timeline for vehicle entry to reduce toxic emissions in the capital. Here are the primary rules for transport and traffic management:

  • From November 1, 2026, only BS VI and electric goods vehicles will be allowed to enter Delhi.
  • Sixty-two traffic hotspots have been identified for de-congestion measures to improve flow and reduce pollution.
  • The rule of ‘no Pollution Under Control (PUC), no fuel’ will be strictly enforced at all fueling stations.
  • The Delhi government will replace 80% of its official vehicle fleet with electric vehicles.
  • Starting July 1, 2025, end-of-life vehicles will not be provided fuel in the city.

Mandatory Anti-Smog Guns and Green Initiatives

The mitigation plan also covers construction sites and large commercial buildings to control dust and industrial pollution. The following measures are now mandatory for the public and private sectors:

  • Anti-smog guns must be installed at all buildings exceeding 3,000 square meters, including high-rise complexes and malls.
  • A massive plantation drive to plant 70 lakh trees is planned to increase the city’s green cover.
  • Staggered office timings and work-from-home directives may be implemented during periods of severe pollution.
  • The government will maintain zero tolerance for any violations of these new rules.
  • Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that this initiative builds upon the Green Budget to ensure accountability at every level.
