The Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) have unveiled a major roadmap for the future of travel in Delhi-NCR. Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu officially launched this report on February 8, 2026. The new plan proposes using building rooftops as landing stations to bypass heavy traffic and connect key locations like Gurugram, Connaught Place, and Jewar Airport in minutes.

What are the routes and ticket prices?

The report outlines a specific pilot corridor of roughly 65 to 75 kilometers. This corridor will connect Gurugram, Connaught Place in Delhi, and the upcoming Jewar International Airport in Noida. The main benefit for the common man is the massive time saving. A trip between Connaught Place and Gurugram, which currently takes 60 to 90 minutes by road, could be completed in just 7 minutes by air.

Regarding the cost, early estimates suggest that a ticket for this 7-minute flight might cost between ₹2,000 and ₹3,000 per passenger. The goal is to keep the price competitive with premium cab services while offering much faster travel. Private partners like InterGlobe Enterprises and Archer Aviation are working to deploy aircraft for these routes.

When will operations start and how will it work?

Industry leaders are targeting late 2026 for the commercial launch of these air taxi services. To make this happen without acquiring expensive land, the CII recommends converting rooftops of office towers, hospitals, and tech parks into “vertiports” for vertical take-off and landing. The rollout will happen in phases to ensure safety:

  • Phase 1: Drone-based cargo and medical deliveries.
  • Phase 2: Air ambulance and organ transport services.
  • Phase 3: Full-scale urban air taxi passenger services.

Currently, DGCA rules do not allow commercial flights to take off from rooftops. The report has asked the government to create a special unit to frame safety rules for these low-altitude flights. Testing zones may soon be set up in places like GIFT City or Andhra Pradesh before full operations begin in Delhi.
