The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Sarabjit Singh from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, drove a Tata Sierra SUV through VVIP Gate Number 2. After crashing through the iron gates and barriers, he left a bouquet and a garland near the office of Assembly Speaker Vijendra Gupta before fleeing the spot. The Delhi Police later arrested him in the Roop Nagar area of North Delhi.

His family has informed the police that Sarabjit is mentally disturbed and is currently undergoing treatment, providing a medical prescription from Shahjahanpur as evidence.
