The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is almost ready for the public to use. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate this 213-km greenfield project on April 14, 2026. Once opened, the journey from Delhi to Dehradun will take only 2.5 hours instead of the usual 6 to 7 hours. This ₹12,000 crore project is designed to make travel faster and more comfortable for daily commuters and tourists.

What are the main features of the new expressway?
The expressway starts from Akshardham Temple in Delhi and passes through several cities in Uttar Pradesh like Baghpat, Shamli, and Saharanpur. It is a six-lane, access-controlled road with a designated speed limit of 100 kmph. One of the most special features is the 12 km elevated wildlife corridor near Mohand, which ensures animals can move without danger. It also includes 14 wayside amenities and 10 bridges to ensure a smooth driving experience for everyone.
Current status and safety checks before the launch
While the inauguration is planned for April 14, senior NHAI officials are currently fixing some final safety issues. There have been reports of poor lighting on certain stretches like the Biharigarh belt that need attention before the full opening. Trial runs are already happening in parts of Uttar Pradesh, and helipads are being built for the Prime Minister’s visit. The project has seen delays in the past, but work is now in the final stages of cleaning and painting.
