The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is nearing its final stages and the full opening is now expected by the second week of April 2026. This project is set to reduce the travel time between the national capital and Dehradun from the current six hours to just two and a half hours. Traffic police have already issued alerts regarding the potential increase in vehicle numbers on major routes once the expressway becomes operational. To manage the high-speed traffic, a robust security network with 24-hour CCTV surveillance has been established along the entire route.

Toll Rates and Speed Limits for Travelers
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has estimated the toll prices for various vehicle categories. While the first 18 kilometers from Akshardham to the Loni border will be toll-free, commuters traveling the full distance will need to pay based on their vehicle type. A closed tolling system will be used so that users only pay for the distance they actually travel on the expressway.
| Vehicle Category | Speed Limit | Estimated Toll (One-Way) |
|---|---|---|
| Private Cars / SUVs | 100 km/h | ₹675 |
| Light Commercial Vehicles | 80 km/h | ₹1,100 |
| Buses and 2-Axle Trucks | 80 km/h | ₹2,300 |
| Two-Wheelers | 60 km/h | N/A |
High-Tech Surveillance and Wildlife Protection Features
The expressway is fully equipped with CCTV cameras to monitor traffic violations in real-time. Motorists exceeding the prescribed speed limits will receive online challans automatically. This move is part of the traffic department’s effort to ensure safety on the high-speed corridor. Apart from security, the project includes a significant 12-kilometer elevated section designed specifically for wildlife safety in the Rajaji National Park area. This allows tigers and elephants to move freely without any risk of accidents on the highway. Facilities like fuel stations, food courts, and EV charging points will be available every 25 to 30 kilometers for the convenience of passengers.
