Tragedy struck the streets of Delhi on Sunday, April 5, 2026, as two separate road accidents involving Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses claimed two lives. The fatal incidents occurred in different parts of the city within several hours of each other. Local police officials from Tughlaq Road and Adarsh Nagar have launched detailed investigations to determine the cause of these collisions.

Humayun Road Incident and Arrest

The first accident took place around 2:45 AM on Humayun Road when a DTC bus rear-ended an autorickshaw. The impact was severe enough to cause the auto to overturn on the road. The driver of the auto, identified as 25-year-old Mantu Mahto, sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Unlike many road accident cases, the 40-year-old bus driver stayed at the spot and was taken into custody by the Tughlaq Road police.

Key details of the Humayun Road crash:

  • Victim: Mantu Mahto, age 25.
  • Police Station: Tughlaq Road.
  • Driver Status: Arrested at the scene.
  • Action: CCTV footage from nearby areas is being scanned for evidence.

Azadpur Hit-and-Run Investigation

The second fatal event was reported at approximately 5:30 PM near Azadpur. A speeding DTC bus struck a 19-year-old pedestrian named Akash, who worked as a labourer and resided in Sahipur village. The driver of the bus fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving the vehicle behind. Akash was found in a critical condition and was later declared dead by medical professionals.

The Adarsh Nagar police have registered a case and deployed multiple teams to catch the absconding driver. A crime team has already inspected the site and conducted a forensic examination. The body of the deceased was shifted to the BJRM mortuary for a post-mortem, and his family has been informed about the incident. Investigators are currently recording statements from eyewitnesses to establish the exact sequence of events on the busy road stretch.
