A shocking incident has come to light from the Geeta Colony area in Shahdara, Delhi. A 16-year-old married girl passed away at LNJP Hospital on Saturday during treatment. She had consumed acid about three months ago. While the family initially claimed it was a suicide attempt, they have now alleged that her husband raped her and forced her to drink the acid. The police are investigating the case based on these conflicting statements.
Timeline of the Incident and Allegations
The victim was a minor and got married to a 22-year-old man named Subhash in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, on July 3, 2025. The incident of acid ingestion happened on October 29, 2025. At that time, the girl and her mother told the doctors and police that she drank the acid herself after an argument with her husband.
However, the case took a turn on January 23, 2026. The victim’s mother filed a complaint stating that the husband, Subhash, had sexually assaulted the girl and forced her to consume the acid. Based on this new complaint, the police registered a case under strict sections including the POCSO Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Gautam mentioned that there are contradictions in the statements. The girl had earlier given a statement to a magistrate which was different from the current allegations. The police are looking into why the statements were changed after three months.
Medical Findings and Ongoing Investigation
The girl died on Saturday, February 7, after her condition worsened. An autopsy was conducted on Sunday at LNJP Hospital. The doctors have not yet given a final opinion on the cause of death. They are waiting for histopathology and chemical examination reports because there was a long gap between the acid intake and her death.
The police are also investigating the angle of child marriage, as the girl was only 16 years old at the time of her wedding. The accused is a distant relative of the family. The investigation is currently active to find out the truth behind the conflicting claims made by the parents regarding the incident.
