The Delhi Jal Board has officially launched an AI-powered chatbot and a new mobile app to help residents manage water-related issues more efficiently. Launched by Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on March 30, 2026, these digital tools are a core part of the city’s Summer Action Plan 2026-27. The initiative focuses on providing instant support and a transparent grievance redressal system for the people of Delhi.

How the AI Chatbot and DJB 1916 App Work
Residents can now register their water complaints through the DJB 1916 mobile app, the official website, or the new AI chatbot. Once a complaint is filed, the system uses geo-marking to identify the exact location and alerts the concerned engineers immediately. If the issue is not resolved within the set time frame, it automatically moves to senior officials for review. This ensures that no complaint is left unattended and provides real-time updates to the citizens regarding their complaint status.
Key Features of the Summer Action Plan 2026-27
- Water production target is set at 1,002 million gallons per day (MGD) to meet summer demand.
- Deployment of geo-tagged water tankers for real-time tracking and monitoring.
- Partnership with IIT Kanpur Airawat Research Foundation for AI and Digital Twin technology integration.
- Strict compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 for user privacy and data security.
- Availability of a 24×7 helpline through numbers 1916 and 1800117118 for manual support.
The collaboration with IIT Kanpur is a non-financial agreement aimed at modernizing the city’s water infrastructure. Officials expect the system to help detect leaks early, maintain cleaner supply lines, and reduce overall water wastage across the capital. The new system replaces outdated methods with a data-driven approach to make water management more citizen-centric and accountable.
