Residents of northwest Delhi will soon witness a massive cultural landmark in their neighborhood as the authorities have greenlit a major spiritual project. The Delhi Village Development Board has officially sanctioned the construction of a colossal statue of Lord Ram in Mangolpur Kalan. What are the key details of the Lord Ram statue?
The project involves creating a massive structure that will reach a total height of approximately 100 feet. The centerpiece is the 81-foot statue of Lord Ram, which will be depicted in a standing ‘blessing’ posture holding a bow. Below the statue, there will be a 10-foot lotus base, and a 6-foot ornamental canopy will sit above the head.
- Budget Allocation: Out of the total Rs 55 crore, approximately Rs 50 crore is dedicated strictly to the statue’s construction.
- Materials Used: The statue will be built on a reinforced concrete foundation with a structural steel framework, covered in bronze or metal cladding for long-lasting durability.
- Design: It will feature a traditional halo behind the head and the bow resting on the ground.
Where will the statue be located and when will it be ready?
The statue will be installed at the Hanuman Mandir Park in Mangolpur Kalan. Officials finalized this location to ensure the statue is clearly visible from the upcoming Mangolpur Kalan metro station, creating a distinct skyline view for commuters. The project is estimated to take 18 months to complete once construction begins.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Board Chairperson Raj Kumar Chauhan were key figures in clearing this proposal. Beyond the statue, the plan includes redeveloping the park with better landscaping, lighting, and seating arrangements to serve as a community picnic spot for local families.
