The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has shared a big update for daily commuters in the capital. The Central Secretariat metro station is set to become a major hub just like Kashmere Gate. This change comes after the Union Cabinet officially approved the new Phase-5(A) expansion on December 24, 2025. This new plan includes a special metro corridor that will connect key areas like India Gate and Bharat Mandapam directly, making travel much easier for office goers and tourists.

What is the new route and stations list?

A new 9.9 km underground line will extend the Magenta Line from RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha. This route is being called the Central Vista Corridor. It is designed to help thousands of government employees and visitors reach central Delhi without using private cars. The government is investing approximately ₹12,015 crore for this phase to boost connectivity.

Here are the 9 new stations on this route:

  • RK Ashram Marg (Interchange)
  • Shivaji Stadium
  • Yuge Yugeen
  • Central Secretariat (Triple Interchange)
  • Kartavya Bhawan
  • India Gate
  • War Memorial-High Court
  • Bharat Mandapam
  • Indraprastha (Interchange)

Which stations will connect three lines now?

Right now, only Kashmere Gate station allows passengers to switch between three different metro lines. However, with Phase-4 and Phase-5(A), the network will see a big upgrade. Central Secretariat will soon connect the Yellow, Violet, and the new Magenta line extension. The DMRC has confirmed that the total number of interchange stations in the entire network will go up from 29 to 46 once the work is finished.

Upcoming Triple Interchange Stations:

Station Name Connected Lines
Central Secretariat Yellow, Violet, Magenta
Azadpur Yellow, Pink, Magenta
New Delhi Yellow, Airport Express, Green
Lajpat Nagar Violet, Pink, Golden
Inderlok Red, Green, Magenta
