Delhi Police Crime Branch: Racket Selling Expired Cold Drinks and Biscuits with Fake Dates Busted in Dwarka

The Delhi Police Crime Branch has successfully busted a major racket involved in selling expired food and beverages in the Dwarka area. During a raid conducted at a warehouse in Bamnoli village, officials discovered thousands of expired bottles and biscuit packets being rebranded with fake expiry dates. This operation was carried out after the police received specific intelligence about illegal activities that posed a serious risk to public health.

Modus Operandi and Equipment Used

The accused individuals used a calculated method to deceive both retailers and consumers. They targeted popular beverage and snack brands to ensure quick sales in the market. The process involved removing old markings and replacing them with new, fake data to make the products look fresh.

• Date Removal: The suspects used chemical thinner to erase the original expired dates from the packaging without damaging the plastic or cardboard.
• Printing Technology: A Domino Printing Machine Ax 350i was utilized to print fake manufacturing and expiry dates that appeared identical to original brand markings.
• Targeted Products: The seized stock included popular soft drinks like Thums Up, Sprite, Limca, and Coca-Cola, along with premium Parle Platina Hide and Seek Milano biscuits.

Arrests and Official Action

The police team arrested the warehouse owner, identified as Kamal Mudgil, along with two of his employees, Lokesh Kumar and Shivam. A team from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) joined the raid to collect samples for formal testing and to ensure all food safety regulations were addressed. The authorities are now tracing the supply chain to identify the shops where these expired items were already delivered.
