How did the encounter happen?
The Shakkarpur team of the Crime Branch received a specific tip-off that the leader of the Asad Gang was entering the Usmanpur area with his associates. Acting on this information, the police laid a trap to catch them. When the three suspects were spotted on a motorcycle, the police team signaled them to stop and surrender.
Instead of listening to the police command, the criminals opened fire on the team in an attempt to flee. The police officials fired back in self-defense. In this retaliatory firing, all three suspects were shot in the legs and fell down, after which they were overpowered by the team.
Police officer safe and investigation details
The operation was dangerous for the police personnel involved. During the firing, one bullet fired by the criminals brushed past a Sub-Inspector (SI), who narrowly escaped a serious injury. Officials confirmed that the team followed all protocols and fired only when attacked.
The police have recovered the motorcycle and illegal firearms from the spot. The three arrested individuals are currently receiving medical treatment. Authorities are verifying their criminal records, as they are reportedly involved in several cases of robbery and crime across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
